With the 4th of July holiday just a few days away, there is a sense of anticipation in the air. It is a three-day weekend for many corporate businesses, a sales extravaganza for retail establishments and a very, busy time for businesses that operate in vacation destinations.
Now is the time to make sure your employees are motivated and excited about working the holiday weekend! For many customers, this could be their first time in your establishment. There are vacationers visiting new places or locals stopping into your store to check out your advertised sales or specials.
Find ways to make it fun for your team to be at work. And to understand the importance of over-delivering to your customer. Their goal should be to make the customer’s experience more memorable than the fireworks!
Keep Employees Motivated
- Bring in FOOD – Everyone’s got to eat! It always tastes better when someone else buys! Consider bringing in burgers and dogs or BBQ to make your employees feel like they are part of the ‘holiday’.
- Offer Comp Time – Perhaps your holiday schedule already allows for them to take another day when they have to work on a national holiday. But even if it does, go one step further and let employees know you appreciate. Offer the opportunity for them to leave early or arrive late sometime in the next two weeks.
- Run a contest – Whether it’s the highest sales, most unique upsell, or number of greetings to the customer – do whatever your environment will allow. Inciting a bit of competition will make it more interesting for everyone. The prize can be recognition or a gift card. Or maybe an extra half hour for lunch. Even pizza or donuts for the ‘team’ if you have departments compete against one another.
Don’t let a holiday weekend stand in the way of good customer service. Motivate your employees to over-deliver, while maximizing the experience for your customer.
If you want to make sure your staff is providing excellent customer service, you can always have a mystery shopper stop in too!
