Welcome to our podcast and blog! This is the Unstoppable Success Podcast series episode 16 where we’re going to take a look at cultivating an environment of gratitude and how this is so important to your success because after all, this is the Unstoppable Success podcast series!
It doesn’t matter if you are tuning in as a long time small business owner or as someone who is considering the entrepreneurial track. You might be joining us as someone who is looking to get into the fast lane of the career track where you work, or you might be someone who is looking to attract more good things into their life. No matter what drew you to this podcast, know that without gratitude in our lives, it becomes nearly impossible to be successful and here are two reasons why.
First, when we say thank you to those who are helping us be successful, they want to do more for us. It’s what being human is about. We all like being needed and appreciated and we all like being a part of not only our own success stories but the success stories of others. Those who were instrumental in the success of Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump and Richard Branson all have some really great stories to share with their grandchildren around the Thanksgiving table, don’t they?
Showing our appreciation acknowledges the importance of the support of our friends and family members in our lives. I remember when I was starting my mystery shopping and market research firm, Market Viewpoint, almost 20 years ago how my friends rallied to help. They mystery shopped for me and had their friends shop for me too. They referred business my way and they were always there to listen and share advice when I needed it and sometimes, even when I thought I didn’t.
Even though some of my family members didn’t always understand my business model, they were always encouraging – asking me how things were going and reminding me of times in the past when I succeeded because of my perseverance and tenacity. Other family members were there to cook a casserole or run errands for me when I was working 12 to 14 hour days to launch my business. These generous offers of support and love were invaluable to me especially on those days when I was so tired I wondered how I was going to make it through.
We can’t be successful alone. We need others to help us. What we lack, others can supply and for that we should be grateful if we want the endless resources to keep on flowing for our greater good.
The second reason why it’s important to cultivate an environment of gratitude is that gratitude is the fuel that propels us toward the success we desire. Consider the man or woman who lives in that place of “never having enough”. They never have enough time, money, friends, good days at work, days of feeling healthy, never enough good shows on TV – this list can go on and on. They dwell in a place of lack not abundance. By focusing on all that they don’t have, they fail to see all that they do have.
Keeping a gratitude journal can be so helpful in getting those who focus on lack to refocus on all the good in their lives. When I focus on all of the basic blessings in my life, I know that I have what I need to build from there. The gratitude I feel is my fuel for this rocket ship I am riding to success.
By refocusing your energy from the negative to the positive in your life, you are soon going to find that you have more energy to contribute to your personal success in all areas of your life. Being positive about our lives and all that we have- even if it’s only the breath in our body for the moment- creates energy. It creates the pool of energy we need to get us through the rough patches of our businesses, our careers, and the rough patches in our lives. And there will be rough patches. Rough patches are a part of life.
So be thankful for even the most seemingly insignificant things in your life –those things we all take for granted- and you are going to be amazed at the energy you have to dedicate to achieving the bigger things that contribute to your definition of success.
Now get out there and be grateful. You’ll feel fantastic as a result, and this will continue to fuel you, your career, your business, and your soul.
