On the Unstoppable Success Coaching podcast today we are discussing how to prepare to be a great time manager. Why consider time management preparation? Preparation for time management is crucial to being a great time manager. Think about athletes. Athletes don’t immediately jump in the pool, or lift weights, or ski down a hill without first preparing by warming up their muscles, or doing stretching and cardio exercises. Or, consider speakers. Speakers wouldn’t simply walk up in front of 1000 people to talk without first preparing their presentation. It makes sense that one needs to properly prepare before excelling at time management.
Here are 3 steps for effective time management preparation:
Step 1: Clean and Organize your Work Area. Your work area could be your cubicle, your office suite, the spare bedroom in your house or the dining room table. Let’s get it clean and organized.
Step 2: Time Your Tasks throughout the week. Take a week and time each task with some sort of a timer. I use the stopwatch function on my cell phone but you can use a wristwatch or a kitchen time if that works better for you. When you know how much time each tasks takes you to accomplish you can make the decision to delegate, automate, or eliminate the task from your to do list.
Step 3: Pick a Calendaring System. Choose a calendar or a calendar system that will work for you, your work team, and maybe even your family. I know that a lot of families nowadays are using Google calendar to keep the family activities straight which you can use in your business too. I know you will find a calendar system that works for you too.
Can you set aside time in the near future to clean and organize your work area, time your tasks throughout the week and choose a calendaring system that will help you stay organized? What challenges do you find with time management? Feel free to comment below!
