With so many businesses including social media in their marketing plans these days, instead of blocking sites like Facebook and YouTube, many employers are encouraging their employees to get in on the marketing action by posting and tweeting throughout the day.
But like anything else in our organizations, employees deserve to be trained on how to best utilize these marketing tools to optimize the public relations goodwill that can be achieved.
Consider a one or two hour training session for all who are posting and tweeting in your organization to set clear boundaries and suggest topics that are appropriate for general distribution.
Remind the staff to avoid posts and tweets about money, politics, and religion are off limits unless you happen to be an organization that is involved in money, politics, or religion. These topics can burn your organization especially if your views differ dramatically from the demographic you serve. You probably wouldn’t talk about these things at a party, so avoid them on social media.
